Safety
Othiri (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to keeping our community safe. This Safety page explains how we protect users, what we expect from members, and how you can report problems. Othiri is strictly for adults aged 18+.
Safety overview
This page explains what Othiri actually does, so you can judge it rather than take our word for it. The short version: every photo on Othiri has been looked at by a person before you see it, blocking is instant and works both ways, and no report is ever acted on by a machine — a person decides.
A person checks every photo
Every photo uploaded to Othiri is reviewed by a human moderator before anyone else can see it. A new photo is held back until it is approved — it is not published first and checked later, and there is no bulk-approve. That is a real cost for us and it is deliberate: it is the difference between a catfish photo being taken down after it has done damage, and never appearing. It also means a genuine photo can wait a while, and we would rather that than the alternative.
Blocking and reporting
- Block from a chat's ••• menu or from a profile. It takes effect at once and works in both directions — neither of you can see or message the other, and you drop out of each other's feeds.
- Reporting someone blocks them for you at the same moment, so you never have to keep seeing an account you have just reported.
- The reasons you can pick are: fake profile or catfish, harassment or hate, scam or solicitation, inappropriate content, underage suspicion, and other.
- A report never removes an account automatically. Every one is read by a person, who decides whether to warn, restrict or remove. Repeated reports do count against a profile in how often it is shown, but no number of them can get someone removed on its own — and that cuts both ways: nobody can be mass-reported off Othiri, and action takes as long as a person takes.
Who we are
Our commitments
- Maintain a safe, respectful community by enforcing our rules.
- Enable reporting, and put a person — never a machine — in charge of what happens to a reported account.
- Check every photo by hand before it is shown to anyone.
- Keep your safety data private and only share when necessary for safety or legal reasons.
How to report
If you see harassment, suspicious messages, someone who looks under 18, or anything else that breaks our rules: in a chat tap ••• and choose Report user, or tap Report on their profile. Pick the closest reason and add what you can. You can also email us at the address above, and for anything urgent that is the faster route.
Verification & identity
Selfie verification and ID verification are both optional. Neither is required to use Othiri, and failing one does not hide you or lock you out — it only withholds the badge. What it does give you is a choice on the other side: anyone can turn on a verified-only feed in Settings → Privacy and see verified profiles only, and that costs nothing. A badge is a signal, not a guarantee — keep to normal precautions when you meet someone.
Meeting people in person — tips
- Stay in public, well-lit places and tell someone your plans.
- Arrange your own transportation and keep personal details private until comfortable.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels off, leave and report the person.
Photos & messaging
- Only share images you’re comfortable with others seeing.
- Report explicit, abusive, or non-consensual imagery immediately.
- If someone pressures you for money, personal details, or explicit content — stop contact and report.
Automated checks & moderation
The two halves work differently, and it is worth knowing which is which. Photos are reviewed only by people — no software decides whether your picture goes up. Written content is checked automatically as you submit it: a word filter can refuse a bio, prompt answer or note and ask you to reword it, and moderators review what those checks flag. Nothing automated removes an account or bans anyone; a person makes that call. Safety reports and account-deletion reasons are deliberately exempt from the word filter, so you are never blocked from quoting what was said to you.
Scams & suspicious behavior
- Never send money or share financial details with someone you meet on the app.
- Be careful with profiles that avoid video/voice chat, rush intimacy, or request money.
- If someone claims an emergency and asks for funds, treat it as a potential scam and report them.
Privacy & safety controls
- Adjust location, camera, and microphone permissions in device settings. Othiri only ever asks Android for APPROXIMATE location — it cannot take your precise position — and it never asks for your contacts.
- Block and report users immediately if they make you uncomfortable. Blocking is instant and mutual.
- Incognito Mode hides you from the feed — only people you swipe right on can ever see you. It comes with Silver and Gold.
- A verified-only feed shows you nobody but selfie-verified profiles. It is free.
- Pause your profile for 7, 14 or 30 days if you want to disappear for a while and keep your matches.
- Be aware of what there is NOT: a paying member can attach a written Note to a like, so a message can reach you before you have matched with anyone. You can block or report from that Note like anywhere else, but there is no setting that turns Notes off.
Law enforcement & emergencies
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. We will cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. For issues requiring urgent help, please use local emergency channels and then report within the app.
Child safety & minors (18+ only)
- Othiri is strictly for adults (18+). If you suspect someone is under 18, report the profile immediately.
- We will investigate, may require verification, and will remove accounts that violate the age rule.
- We cooperate with authorities when needed to protect minors.
Data & safety sharing
We share data only when necessary to protect people, investigate abuse, or comply with law enforcement requests and our legal obligations. We do not sell user data.
